Hilary has not been able to resist moving other people’s furniture around since her mother allowed her to redecorate her childhood bedroom, aged 8. Luckily she discovered that this was a job and contrived to spend the first years of her career as an editorial stylist at Metropolitan Home before freelancing for Elle, The Times (UK), Livingetc, House & Garden and many interiors brands.
She likes to work in a European way, tackling everything from location-finding to furniture design. As Creative Director for Canvas, she oversaw product development, catalog design and visual merchandising. In 2019, developed a range of decorative accessories for startup, Bloomist. In 2020-2021, she creative directed and styled several projects with ABC Carpet & Home and Crate & Barrel.
Over the years she has conceived, art directed and written 5 books. Her most recent book, Nomad at Home (Ryland, Peters & Small 2022), examines the influence of travel on home design.
Her client list includes Crate & Barrel, ABC Carpet & Home, West Elm, Canvas, Ochre, Bloomingdales, Harrods, Swarovski, Sunbrella, Zoffany, Elle Decoration, Architectural Digest, Vogue Living, Vogue UK, Town and Country, Livingetc, Google, Nest, Metropolitan Home, Garnet Hill, Williams Sonoma, Rizzoli, Ryland, Peters & Small and the Telegraph Magazine.
